The implementation of the City’s new mandatory local hiring policy is a top priority for the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD). Understandably, many within the construction industry are eager to know how and when the policy will be implemented. Planning the implementation of the policy is well underway. The effective date of the local hiring ordinance was March 25, 2011. In other words, public works or improvement projects first advertised for bids on or after March 25, 2011 are all covered by the new ordinance.
The webpage for the Office of Contracts Administration host a database of all upcoming City-Funded construction projects. City – Funded construction projects that are subject to the new Local Hiring Policy will be listed on the website. Please visit the Office of Contracts Administration for more information.

The Trade Exemption List designates trades for which the Local Hiring Policy shall not be applicable. Work hours for designated trades will be exempt from the mandatory requirements.
